Blogging and Podcasting in Public Relations

Filed under: Information — Phillip La Peyre @ 1:02 am

I saw it only fit, that with the new Semester here that it were time for something new.  For the A325 students among us, you are no doubt looking at ALC102 at the same time, yes?  Step back for a minute, and you will see that these two subjects, both ALC102 (Media and Communications) and ALR101 (Public Relations) could not have meshed together any better than this.

ALC102 is all about new media.  The ‘digital’ world.  We have iPod’s, e-mail (face it, facsimile is dead – just like the floppy disk) and even internet dating!  In ALC101 from the very first tutorial, we were guided towards the world of blogging (a few you will find to the right under their respective subjects).  Here is a list of blogging websites that Ross Monaghan has passed on:

General News & ‘Other’
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
http://www.boingboing.net/
http://www.thinkprogress.org/
http://www.crooksandliars.com/
http://postsecret.blogspot.com/

Related to Public Relations
http://rossmonaghan.prblogs.org/ (Yes, my blog! ~ Ross)
http://www.leehopkins.net/
http://www.prblogs.org/

Now it may be more familiar to anyone who listens to 101.9 FM (The Fox) as they have become quite heavily involved in the new world of pod-casting.  There are many sites out there, which again, Ross passed on to us:

There are so many other great blog and/or pod-casting websites available to you.  You just have to find them, and on that note, if you would like to add them to this list, e-mail me and I will do just that.  Good luck this semester everyone.  It’s full on – and looks like fun.

Kind Regards,

Direct Link To Conference Information

I am only speculating that we all recieved this email attachment over the last couple of weeks. For those who have not, it may be a little bit late – I appologise as I only opened this blog in the last couple of days.

If you keep an eye out on the Conferences Section, or if you head over there now, you will see the information in regards to the Pubilc Relations and Journalism conference being held at Geelong Waterfront Campus on May 25th.
Keep tuned here, as I will try and comment with some information as to what was discussed at the conference if you were unable to attend. I’ll see if Ross Monaghan can help us out a little also.

Please remember, if you would like to contribute to the deakin blog, or have any ideas regarding, please email me at pll@deakin.edu.au and I will help you if you have not already, create an PR blogs account. A special thanks to Robert French at PRBlogs.org for all his help with this website.

They said, “Make A Blog!”

Filed under: Information — Phillip La Peyre @ 4:50 pm

It’s funny. I’ve been involved with the internet quite extensively since 1997, and this year the terminologies ‘blog’ and now, ‘podcast’ are coming at me from every which direction. Ross Monaghan, my first year PR tutor at Deakin introduced me to these new-age concepts which I have now been researching to the greatest degree. We came to a conclusion that PR Students from Deakin should have the abilities to express their current academic related issues at a centralised site. If you visit his blog website (click his name previously in this paragraph) you will see links to other students of PR at Deakin – but from what I can gather, they are fellow third-year students in relation to Ross’s PR3 blog.

Along side a lot of current projects still in the works by various members of the first year PR students such as regular online discussion sessions to name the first, I would hope this blog site could be one of the more published and forthcoming extracurricular forms of student communication. I really emphasise the importance of commenting in the respective posts because without response this student blog holds little or no purpose, therefore if you would like to post on this blog, or you have something that can contribute to the Deakin Public Relations Community either personally or through business, please contact me. My details are provided in the signature of each post. I am more than willing to provide the information necessary to allow you to post on this blog.
